Impossible at Tate Lab

Marlene Kelnreiter | Jun 28, 04:04 PM

JUL 7, 2012
11am - 4pm
Tate Britain
Millbank
London SW1P 4RG
United Kingdom

Next weekend Tate Britain will be hosting the Youth Market TATE LAB with Impossible Project. The Tate Collective’s creative lab encourages young people to experiment, create and innovate through art and ideas. 15 – 25 year olds are invited to come along to the gallery to work collaboratively with photographer Cyrus Mahboubian using Impossible Project film in Polaroid cameras, using the Tate’s collection as inspiration.

The event is free for 15 – 25 year olds to attend. Check tate.org.uk/collectives for booking details or call +44 (0) 20 7887 8888

Mahboubian is a London based artist of Iranian origin, working mainly in Polaroid and 35mm photography. He is inspired by his own daily journeys, chance encounters and the natural world. Motivated by how quickly time passes, he treats photography as a notebook and a way to preserve memories of significant moments in his life.

Death Republica

Marlene Kelnreiter | May 4, 07:12 AM

until MAY 11, 2012
En Face
2 rue Jacquard
75011 Paris

In this dark exhibition French photographer Thibault Tourmente presents Polaroids and other dead stuff at Art Azart in Paris.

Thibault is using Impossible instant images in the most creative and wild way possible: “For me, Polaroid is not a photographic medium, it’s more a plastic support! You can do so many things with it: dissect, embroider, sew it… When you have a Polaroid in your hand you are not only holding a picture but an object. You catch the moment and you materialize it.”

The exhibition is more of an installation, consisting of manipulated Impossible images, curiosities, strange objects, collages and drawings.

This is the second exhibition of Thibault Tourmente in Raul Diaz’s shop/gallery En Face – a very special place is in Paris for the fans of analog instant photography.

wasser atmen / breathing water

Marlene Kelnreiter, | Feb 7, 12:11 PM

We can’t resist but sharing this beautiful fanfold with you, created by photographer Susan Probst from the German artist collective zimmer 117. Her analog instant photography series “wasser atmen” (breathing water) introduces you to a magic world seen through an emerald green surface of water. A floating space like a second, drawn reality. Fleeting, fragile moments. Calm, almost pictorial pictures, reminding of dream sequences. The photographs create their own cosmos, an underwater world, where breathing stops and time stands still.

The double-page fanfold presents 20 instant images printed in a special gloss varnish that gives a tactile impression of the originals. Limited edition of 200 items, 89 × 107 mm, available for 10 Euro + Shipping costs here.
