Upcoming Impossible NYC 8x10 Events

Michelle Casper, | May 16, 09:03 PM

This past Saturday and Sunday, we hosted another 8×10 Portrait Weekend. In addition to the usual photographs of individuals and couples, this weekend was extra special for Mother’s Day. The event attracted families of all types, with several children surprising their favorite lady with a special portrait session. We also photographed our youngest model to date, at only seven weeks old. Everyone had a lot of fun, and some great memories were captures on Impossible film.

Our next 8×10 Portrait Days are scheduled for June 8th and 9th, and as always, time slots fill up quickly, so give the store a call to reserve your space. We are also now photographing by appointment. So if you are in NYC for a short time only, or are otherwise unable to make our scheduled 8×10 Portrait Days, give the store a call (212-219-3254) to set up an appointment to have you and/or your loved ones captured in this beautiful format. It is an amazing way to commemorate a college or high school graduation!

To learn how to shoot these gorgeous large format images yourself, don’t miss your opportunity to register for our upcoming 8×10 Workshop presented by 20×24 Studio. This informative workshop is a great introduction to large format photography and is a must-do for any photography enthusiast.

Viewfinder: Alison Turner's Reflected Identities

Patrick Tobin, | May 16, 11:00 AM

Welcome back to Viewfinder, our ongoing series in which we chronicle interesting projects people are working on that incorporate IMPOSSIBLE film. This entry focuses on a project from our friend Alison Turner called “Reflected Identities”…

When I look in the mirror, what I see reflecting back at me is usually not how I feel inside. Under the superficial layer of skin, hair and eye color, I am much more complex than my reflection reveals. My internal struggles and search for self-identity has given me plenty of bricks to build the wall high, while holding down an internal mix of intense feelings of anger, loss, jealousy, vulnerability, love, sadness and confusion.

They say that you are a direct reflection of your friends and the people you choose to surround yourself with. If this holds true, all of my friends in this series are a collective self portrait of who I am. “Reflected Identities” has allowed me to see and understand these feelings by looking closer at the faces and bodies of the people who are closest to me who are also learning to accept who they are right now.

Impossible's Analog Travelog - Derrick Tin on Christmas Island

Patrick Tobin, | May 15, 11:00 AM

Welcome back to Impossible’s Analog Travelog! In this series, we showcase fantastic Impossible photos taken on voyages the world over. This entry comes from Derrick Tin who traveled to Christmas Island and brought along some Impossible film

Born in Canada, grew up in Africa, educated in Europe, worked in the US and now living in Australia, I consider myself a true citizen of this world. Throw into that mix my Chinese heritage and you can perhaps understand my constant desire for travel and exploration.

From trekking the lost ruins of Machu Picchu, to lazying around the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, it never ceases to amaze me just how beautiful our planet is. Christmas Island, a volcanic island covered by tropical rain forrest just south of Indonesia, is a great example of untouched eco paradise waiting to be discovered.

Sir David Attenborough described the Christmas Island crab migration as one of the greatest moments of his career as a wildlife explorer and naturalist and, after coming across another article on this remote island in the Indian Ocean and their famed resident crabs, i decided to pack my cameras and go explore and experience this natural marvel.
